Why Your Newborn Photography Session Should Include the Whole Family

Why Your Newborn Photography Session Should Include the Whole Family

When you think about a newborn photography session, it’s easy to imagine beautiful photos of your tiny baby — those little fingers, sleepy expressions, and all the details that change so quickly.

But your baby is only one part of the story.

“I don’t want to be in the photos…”

I hear this from mums quite often.

After pregnancy, childbirth and very little sleep, it’s completely understandable that being in front of the camera may not be at the top of your list. You might not feel like yourself yet, or you may simply want the focus to be entirely on your new baby.

And that’s absolutely okay.

You don't have to decide straight away.

During your newborn photography session, we can concentrate on your baby first. If, as the session goes on, you feel comfortable and decide that you'd like a few photographs with your baby, we can take them.

There is no pressure.

But there is one thing I hear again and again from families:

“I'm so glad I did it.”

Because when you look back years from now, you may not notice the things you were worried about at the time. You’ll see your baby in your arms. You’ll see the connection between you. You’ll see the love on your partner’s face. And you’ll have a photograph of the two of you together during a chapter of your lives that can otherwise become a blur of sleepless nights and newborn cuddles.

You can always decide which photographs you love later.

Your newborn session is for the whole family

I believe newborn photography should tell the story of your family, not just photograph your baby on their own.

That means there is plenty of time for:

  • Mum and baby photographs

  • Dad and baby photographs

  • Parents together with their newborn

  • Brothers and sisters meeting the new baby

  • Whole-family portraits

  • Beautiful little details of your newborn

  • Natural moments of cuddles and connection

If you have older children, they are very much part of the story too. We can keep things relaxed and allow them to interact with their new brother or sister naturally rather than expecting them to sit perfectly still.

Yes, your dog can come!

For many families, their dog is their first baby — so of course they deserve to be part of the photographs too.

If your dog is comfortable around the baby and the environment, we can include them in a few photographs and capture those lovely first moments together.

You know your dog best, so if they need a little break, a walk or some quiet time, that's completely fine too.

Why choose a specialist newborn photographer?

Newborn photography requires more than simply having a good camera.

A specialist newborn photographer understands how to work with tiny babies, how to create flattering and beautiful lighting, how to pose safely and comfortably, and how to recognise those fleeting little moments that make a photograph truly special.

The lighting, positioning, timing and attention to detail all come together to create images that you'll want to keep for generations.

Most importantly, your baby’s safety and comfort should always come first.

As a specialist newborn photographer, I take the time to create a calm environment where your baby can settle and your family can relax.

Sometimes the most beautiful photograph is the one that happens in between the poses: a tiny hand holding yours, a big brother looking at his new sister, Dad gently cuddling his baby, or Mum simply looking down at the little person she has been waiting to meet.

Those are the moments worth remembering.

You don't have to feel “photo ready”

If you're a new mum and you're thinking, “I don't want photographs of me right now,” please know that you are not alone.

You don't need to have perfect hair, a perfect body or feel completely confident in front of the camera.

You have just had a baby.

You deserve to be in your family's photographs too.

And you don't have to decide everything before your session. We can start with your newborn, see how everyone is feeling, and take things from there.

Years from now, you may be incredibly grateful to have photographs showing not only the beautiful baby you brought into the world, but the family you created together.

Why Should I book a Newborn Photographer Near me?

Why Should I book a Newborn Photographer Near me?

The first few weeks with your newborn are precious and pass by incredibly fast. That's why many parents search for a newborn photographer near me to capture these fleeting moments while their baby is still tiny.

Newborn Photographer Near me

One of the biggest advantages of choosing a local newborn photographer is convenience. Travelling with a newborn often means planning around feeding times, nappy changes, and unexpected delays. For this reason, I recommend choosing a photographer within a 30–45 minute drive of your home. This keeps the journey manageable for your baby and helps everyone arrive relaxed and comfortable.

When you book a photography session near me, you can spend less time travelling and more time enjoying the experience. A shorter journey also means your newborn is less likely to become unsettled before the session begins, allowing for a smoother and more enjoyable photoshoot.

Professional newborn photography preserves memories you'll cherish for a lifetime. By choosing a local photographer in or around Guildford, Surrey, you can enjoy a stress-free experience while capturing your baby's beautiful first days in a safe and comfortable environment.

Why I Love Being a Surrey Newborn Photographer

Why I Love Being a Surrey Newborn Photographer

There is something truly magical about photographing a brand-new baby. As a baby photographer in Guildford, I have the privilege of capturing some of the most precious moments in a family's journey, and it's a job I genuinely love.

Every newborn session tells a unique story. No two babies are the same, and that's why I believe every session should be carefully tailored to each family. Before your session, we'll discuss your preferred colours, favourite poses, and the overall style you'd like for your photographs. This ensures your images feel personal and perfectly suited to your family.

One of my favourite parts of newborn photography is creating those beautiful, cosy portraits featuring a baby's first cuddly companion. I have a selection of adorable knitted cuddly toys that add a timeless and heartwarming touch to your newborn images. These little details often become treasured memories as your baby grows.

Siblings Are Always Welcome

Welcoming a new baby is a special occasion for the whole family, and I love including brothers and sisters in newborn sessions. Sibling photographs often become some of the most cherished images, capturing the excitement, love, and connection between children. Whether it's a gentle cuddle, a kiss on the forehead, or a proud big brother or sister holding their new sibling, these moments are priceless.

Family Cuddles Make the Best Memories

While newborn portraits are wonderful, some of my absolute favourite images are the family cuddle photographs. There's something incredibly special about gathering everyone together and capturing the love surrounding your new arrival. These images often become family favourites and are perfect for displaying in your home for years to come.

When Should You Book Your Newborn Session?

As a Surrey newborn photographer, I recommend booking your session while you're still pregnant whenever possible. Newborn photography is best completed within the first two weeks after birth when babies are naturally sleepy and curled up.

Because I take a limited number of bookings each month to provide a personalised experience, advance notice is always appreciated. Booking early helps secure availability around your baby's due date and allows us plenty of time to plan your perfect session.

A Relaxed and Personal Experience

My goal is to create a calm, enjoyable experience for both parents and baby. Newborn sessions are never rushed. We work around feeding, cuddles, and comfort breaks, ensuring your baby remains happy and settled throughout.

Being a baby photographer in Guildford is about so much more than taking pictures. It's about preserving memories that pass by far too quickly. Tiny fingers, sleepy smiles, family cuddles, and those first precious days deserve to be remembered forever.

If you're expecting a baby and looking for a Surrey newborn photographer, I'd love to help you create beautiful images that your family will treasure for generations.

Things to Do with Your Children in Summer in Surrey (2026)

Things to Do with Your Children in Summer in Surrey (2026)

Build Sandcastles at Frensham Little Pond

One of Surrey's hidden gems for families is Frensham Little Pond. The sandy shoreline gives children a rare opportunity to build sandcastles, dig moats, and paddle at the water's edge without heading to the coast. The shallow beach area is particularly popular with younger children, while the surrounding woodland paths offer easy walks and wildlife spotting opportunities.

After a morning of play, families can stop at Tern Café, located beside the pond. The café serves drinks, snacks, cakes, and ice cream, making it the perfect reward after a few hours of sandcastle building and exploring.

This is one of those simple summer days out that children often remember most—buckets, spades, paddling, ice cream, and plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors

Frensham Little Pond

Morning Out at Normandy Playground

Tucked away in the Surrey countryside, the playground at Normandy Children’s Play Park is a fantastic spot for younger children. Set within the grounds of Manor Fruit Farm, the play area offers plenty of space for climbing, swinging, balancing and imaginative play, while parents can relax in the surrounding green space.

One of the biggest attractions for parents is the nearby Normandy Village Shop and Cafe. This community-run café serves great coffee.

Cool Off at the Stoke Park Paddling Pool

When Surrey's summer temperatures soar, the paddling pool at Stoke Park Paddling Pool is one of the best free family activities in Guildford. Located within Stoke Park, this large shallow paddling pool is perfect for toddlers and younger children to splash, play, and cool down on hot sunny days. The pool is free to use and sits within Guildford's largest park, which also features a playground, boating pond, mini golf, and plenty of open space for picnics and games.

Parents will appreciate the benches, grassy areas, and nearby kiosks selling drinks, snacks, and ice creams. The pool's gently sloping design makes it particularly suitable for younger children who are building confidence around water.

For families looking for a budget-friendly summer day out, combine a visit to the paddling pool with the playground and a picnic in the park for an easy, fun-filled day without leaving Guildford.

Visit Chobham Adventure Farm

Chobham Adventure Farm combines farm animals, indoor play, outdoor attractions, splash areas, and seasonal entertainment. During summer holidays, special events and shows often add extra excitement for visitors.

This is a great option if you're looking for a full day of entertainment regardless of the weather.

Meet Animals at Bocketts Farm

For younger children, a day at Bocketts Farm Park is always a winner. Kids can meet farm animals, enjoy tractor rides, explore indoor and outdoor play areas, and take part in seasonal summer activities. It's an ideal combination of education and entertainment.

Explore the Great Outdoors at RHS Garden Wisley

A visit to RHS Garden Wisley is one of the best family days out in Surrey. During the 2026 summer holidays, the gardens are hosting a programme of family activities, trails, and interactive experiences designed to get children exploring nature. Families can enjoy outdoor adventures, woodland activities, and hands-on learning experiences throughout the summer holidays.

Bounce Away on a Rainy Day at Giggleville Soft Play Compton

No Surrey summer is complete without a few rainy days, and that's where Giggleville comes to the rescue. Located in Compton near Guildford, this family-run soft play café has become a favourite with local parents. It is suitable for babies and toddles and children up to 5 years old.

Hobbledown Adventure Farm Park and Zoo

A particular highlight for younger children and those who enjoy sensory experiences is The Imaginarium. This immersive space combines interactive water play, sand play, reptiles, insects, caves and sensory activities designed to encourage exploration and imaginative play.

Children can also explore giant wooden play villages, climb towers, crawl through tunnels, bounce on jumping pillows, meet zoo animals, and enjoy one of the region's largest indoor play barns.

Final Thoughts

Whether your family enjoys animals, adventure, nature, history, or thrilling rides, Surrey offers an impressive range of activities to fill the 2026 summer holidays. By mixing outdoor adventures with a few rainy-day backups, you can create a summer packed with fun, discovery, and quality family time

Behind the Scenes of a Newborn Photography Session

Behind the Scenes of a Newborn Photography Session

Those first few weeks with your new baby pass by in the blink of an eye. As a Surrey newborn photographer, I have the privilege of capturing these precious moments for families across Surrey, creating timeless images that preserve the tiny details and special connections that make this stage so memorable.

If you're considering booking a newborn photography session in Surrey, you may be wondering what actually happens behind the scenes. Today, I'm sharing a look at how I prepare for each session and what you can expect when you choose me to photograph your newest family member.

Preparing for Your Newborn Photography Session

Every successful newborn photography session begins with careful planning. Before your appointment, I'll provide guidance on how to prepare your baby, what to wear, and what to bring along.

I also spend time selecting wraps, blankets, and accessories that complement your preferred style and colour palette. My aim is to create beautiful, natural images that you'll love displaying in your home for years to come.

Creating a Calm and Comfortable Environment

Newborn photography requires patience, flexibility, and a peaceful atmosphere. Whether your session takes place in my studio or your home, I create a warm and relaxing environment designed to keep your baby comfortable throughout the experience.

Many babies settle beautifully with gentle white noise, a cosy room temperature, and plenty of time for feeding and cuddles. As an experienced newborn photographer in Surrey, I always work around your baby's needs rather than following a strict schedule.

Your Baby Leads the Session

One of the most important things parents should know is that newborn sessions are completely baby-led.

There is always time for:

  • Feeding breaks

  • Nappy changes

  • Cuddles and soothing

  • Settling and comfort pauses

The most beautiful photographs happen when babies feel safe, content, and relaxed. That's why I allow plenty of time for every newborn photography session in Surrey, ensuring a calm and enjoyable experience for both baby and parents.

Safety Is Always My Priority

When it comes to newborn photography, safety comes first.

Every pose is carefully and gently achieved with your baby's comfort and wellbeing in mind. I never force poses and always pay close attention to your baby's cues throughout the session.

Parents can relax knowing their little one is being photographed in a safe and nurturing environment.

Tailored to Your Baby!

Before your Surrey newborn photography session, we'll discuss styling, colours, and props so I can create a gallery that reflects your vision.

If your baby arrives asleep, I'll usually begin with beanbag poses. To keep them comfortable, I'll gently undress them down to their nappy and wrap them in a soft blanket. If they're unsettled, swaddling often helps them feel secure and drift back to sleep.

Throughout the session, I'll capture a variety of images using different angles, setups, colours, and props to create a beautifully varied gallery.

Most importantly, I am constantly watching your baby's cues to ensure they are comfortable, safe, and happy. Whether they need a feed, a cuddle, or a change of position, we simply follow their lead.

While I'll always try to incorporate any poses or props you've requested, every baby is different. Their comfort and safety will always come first, and I will never force a pose if your little one isn't happy.

If you have seen my website or social media accounts, you will see a range of poses.

Family and Sibling Photos

While newborn portraits are a wonderful keepsake, I always encourage parents and siblings to join in too.

Family photographs help tell the full story of this special chapter in your lives. Whether it's a cuddle with Mum, a proud moment with Dad, or a gentle kiss from an older sibling, these images capture genuine connections that you'll cherish forever.

The Editing Process

After your session, I carefully select and professionally edit each image to create a beautiful final gallery.

My editing style is natural, timeless, and designed to highlight your baby's beauty without excessive retouching. Every photograph receives individual attention to ensure the highest quality results.

Choosing a Newborn Photographer in Surrey

Booking a professional Surrey newborn photographeris about more than simply taking pictures.

From the first consultation to the delivery of your final gallery, my goal is to provide a relaxed and enjoyable experience while creating images that your family will treasure for generations.

If you're expecting a baby and looking for newborn photography in Surrey, I'd love to help you capture these precious first moments.

A Creative Day at FUJIFILM House of Photography in London

Recently, I visited the Fujifilm House of Photography in London for a photography event focused on studio lighting and creative techniques. It was a really inspiring experience and a great opportunity to learn how lighting can completely transform an image.

The atmosphere was full of creative energy, surrounded by photographers passionate about their craft. I picked up useful tips on studio lighting, especially how different setups can change the mood, depth, and storytelling of a portrait. It was a great reminder of how much control lighting gives you in a studio environment. Thank you The Light Doctor.

There was also valuable insight into the business side of photography, including how to strengthen my business and see product ranges in person.

A real highlight was meeting Abigail Lewis Photography and her sister Kristie, who were both friendly and inspiring to talk to.

I also met a fellow photographer from Estonia, and we ended up chatting over lunch about photography and creative ideas. Those spontaneous conversations are often the most memorable part of events like this.

Overall, it was a really motivating day that left me feeling inspired to keep developing my studio lighting skills and continue exploring photography business side more deeply.

I’d definitely recommend attending events like this if you want to grow creatively and connect with other photographers.

What should I look for when choosing a maternity photographer in Surrey?

What should I look for when choosing a maternity photographer in Surrey?

Choosing the right maternity photographer is an important decision. Your pregnancy is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and a professional maternity photoshoot allows you to capture this special chapter beautifully and authentically.

If you’re searching for a maternity photographer in Surrey, especially around Guildford, here are the key factors to consider to ensure you choose the perfect photographer for your maternity photoshoot.

1. Choose a Specialist Maternity Photographer

Not all photographers specialise in maternity photography. A dedicated maternity photographer understands how to pose pregnant bodies naturally and comfortably, using lighting and angles that flatter your shape and highlight your pregnancy glow.

When browsing photographers in Surrey, always check that maternity photography is a core part of their portfolio.

2. Look for a Consistent Photography Style

Every maternity photographer has a signature style. Some focus on soft, natural maternity photoshoots, while others offer more dramatic or editorial imagery.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I prefer outdoor maternity photoshoots or studio sessions?

  • Do the images feel natural, timeless, and emotional?

  • Can I imagine myself in these photos?

A professional maternity photographer in Guildford, Surrey should offer a clear and consistent style across their work.

3. Experience With Maternity Photoshoots

Experience matters, especially during pregnancy. An experienced maternity photographer will:

  • Know the best time to schedule your maternity photoshoot (usually 30–34 weeks)

  • Help guide you into flattering, comfortable poses

  • Work at a relaxed pace that suits you

This experience ensures your maternity photoshoot feels calm, enjoyable, and stress-free.

4. Local Knowledge of Surrey Locations

Surrey is full of stunning outdoor locations — from open countryside to woodland, rivers, and parks. A local maternity photographer in Surrey will know:

  • The best Surrey locations for maternity photography

  • Ideal shooting times for soft, flattering light

  • Seasonal spots that look beautiful year-round

Local knowledge adds huge value to your maternity photoshoot.

5. Comfort, Safety, and Personalised Care

Your comfort should always come first. A professional maternity photographer will prioritise:

  • Your physical comfort and wellbeing

  • Gentle posing and regular breaks

  • A supportive, reassuring approach

This is especially important if this is your first maternity photoshoot or if you’re feeling nervous in front of the camera.

6. Wardrobe Advice for Your Maternity Photoshoot

Many mums worry about what to wear — but a great maternity photographer will help. Look for photographers who offer:

  • Styling advice before your session

  • Guidance on colours and fabrics that photograph well

  • Optional maternity dresses or gowns

This support helps you feel confident and relaxed during your maternity photoshoot.

7. Reviews and Testimonials

Client reviews are powerful. Look for testimonials that mention:

  • A positive maternity photoshoot experience

  • Feeling comfortable and supported

  • Beautiful final images

A well-reviewed maternity photographer in Guildford, Surrey is more likely to deliver an exceptional experience.

8. Transparent Pricing and Packages

Before booking, make sure pricing is clear. A professional maternity photographer will clearly explain:

  • What’s included in your maternity photoshoot

  • How many images you receive

  • Digital files, prints, or albums available

Transparency builds trust and ensures a smooth booking process.

9. Trust Your Instincts

Finally, choose a maternity photographer you genuinely connect with. Trust, communication, and comfort are just as important as beautiful images.

When you feel relaxed and confident, your maternity photoshoot will reflect that — resulting in timeless, emotional photographs you’ll treasure forever.

Final Thoughts

Finding the right maternity photographer in Surrey doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By focusing on experience, style, comfort, and local knowledge, you’ll find a photographer who can beautifully capture your pregnancy journey.

If you’re looking for a professional maternity photographer in Guildford, Surrey, a maternity photoshoot is a meaningful way to celebrate this incredible moment in your life.

Your Hospital Bag: What to Pack for Labor and Beyond

Your Hospital Bag: What to Pack for Labor and Beyond

You’ve made it through the doctor's appointments, the morning sickness, and now, as your due date approaches, a new task emerges: packing your hospital bag.

But what should you actually put in it? The internet is full of endless lists, but you don't need to pack your entire house. The key is to pack for three main phases: during labor, postpartum recovery, and for the baby.

For During Labor

This is all about comfort and staying calm. Your focus should be on you.

• Comfortable Clothing: A comfortable, loose-fitting dress or a labor gown can make you feel more like yourself. A cozy robe and slides are great for walking around. I got this oversized nightgown from Amazon and slides from luluLemon

What to pack for

• Socks: Your feet might get cold! Pack a few pairs of warm socks.

• Lip Balm: A must-have. Your lips can get very dry during labor.

• Snacks and Drinks: While the hospital will have food, packing your favorite snacks like granola bars, fruit snacks, or crackers can give you a much-needed energy boost. A reusable water bottle with a straw is also a great idea.

• Entertainment: Pack your phone and a long charging cable.

For Postpartum Recovery

After the baby is born, your body will be recovering.

• Toiletries: Pack your toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, face wash, and moisturizer. Having your own products can make you feel more refreshed.

• Hair Ties and Headbands: These are essential for keeping your hair out of your face.

• Nursing Bra or Tank Tops: If you plan on breastfeeding, pack a few comfortable nursing bras or tank tops. I bought myself few tank tops from Hugo Boss.

what to pack for hospital bag

• Comfy Clothes: Pack a few pairs of loose-fitting pajamas, sweatpants, or leggings. A dark color is a good idea as you might have some bleeding.

• Going-Home Outfit: Choose a comfortable, loose-fitting outfit. Remember, you’ll still look about six months pregnant, so don't pack your pre-pregnancy jeans. I used my black maternity leggins and oversized t-shirt.

For the Baby

• Going-Home Outfit: This is the big one! Pack a cute outfit. I used same pink outfit for my girls and I still have it, oldest one will turn 17 this year:).

• Infant Car Seat: You absolutely cannot leave the hospital without a properly installed car seat. Have this ready to go in your car before you leave for the hospital.

• Swaddle Blanket: The hospital will provide blankets, but bringing your own soft swaddle blanket can be a nice touch.

• Nappies: Yes, you will need to pack nappies and cotton wool for your baby.

Final Tips Before You Go

• Pack two bags: One for you and one for the baby. This makes things easier to find.

• Keep it accessible: Pack with the items you'll need first on top.

Don’t stress too much about getting every single thing right. This is where your amazing partner steps in, transforming from a supportive presence into a vital supply line!

• Book Your Newborn Photography session:

And on that note, just a reminder that if you’re looking for a newborn photographer in the Guildford area, contact me! I’d love to talk to you about booking a session for you – or for a loved one that you want to purchase a session for.

Why Maternity Photography is a Beautiful Investment?

Embracing the Glow.

Pregnancy is an extraordinary journey, a time of immense change, anticipation, and an undeniable glow. As your body nurtures new life, you're experiencing a transformation unlike any other. While nine months might seem like a long time, this precious period passes quickly, and before you know it, your little one will be in your arms. This is precisely why maternity photography has become a cherished way to celebrate and remember this unique chapter.

Maternity Photography outdoors

More than just a trend, maternity photography is an artful investment in preserving the beauty and emotion of your pregnancy. Here’s why every expecting parent should consider it:

1. Celebrating an Incredible Transformation:

Your body is doing something truly miraculous – growing a human! Maternity photos are a powerful way to honor this incredible feat, celebrating the strength, beauty, and grace of your changing form. It's a chance to see yourself through a different lens, recognizing the wonder of what you're achieving.

2. Documenting a Fleeting Chapter:

While you might feel like you'll remember every kick and every curve, the reality is that the specifics of your pregnancy can become a blur over time. Maternity photos capture this fleeting period, creating a tangible memory of your growing bump, your emotions, and the anticipation of meeting your baby. These are memories you'll want to revisit for years to come.

3. Capturing the Pre-Baby Bond:

Maternity sessions aren't just about the bump; they're about the developing bond between you and your baby, and often, between you and your partner. These photos can beautifully illustrate the love and excitement already present, showcasing your family before it grows by one (or more!). It’s a wonderful way to include siblings too, capturing their excitement about becoming a big brother or sister.

4. Professional Artistry for Timeless Keepsakes:

While selfies are great for everyday moments, a professional maternity photographer brings a level of artistry, technical skill, and creative vision that transforms your photos into stunning works of art. They know how to use lighting, posing, and composition to highlight your best features, creating images that are not just pictures, but timeless keepsakes you'll proudly display.

5. A Confidence Boost and Pampering Experience:

Many photographers offer professional hair and makeup as part of their maternity packages, turning the session into a wonderful opportunity for pampering. Feeling beautiful and confident in front of the camera translates into genuine smiles and radiant photographs. It's a chance to feel celebrated and truly enjoy your pregnancy glow.

6. Telling Your Family's Story:

Maternity photos are a crucial part of your family's narrative. When your child grows up, they'll cherish seeing these images of you carrying them, understanding the love and excitement that surrounded their impending arrival. It creates a beautiful bridge between your pregnancy journey and the birth of your child.

Just a reminder that if you’re looking for a maternity photographer in the Surrey area, contact me! I’d love to talk to you about booking a session for you.

The ideal time for a maternity photoshoot is typically between 30 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. During this window, your bump is beautifully prominent, but you're usually still comfortable enough to move around and pose with ease.

Don't let this unique and beautiful chapter pass undocumented. Investing in maternity photography is an investment in your memories, your story, and the incredible journey of bringing new life into the world. You'll look back on these images with immense fondness and gratitude.

Why Newborn Photography is a Must-Have

Capturing Tiny Miracles.

The arrival of a new baby is an extraordinary moment, a whirlwind of sleepless nights, endless cuddles, and an overwhelming sense of love. In those first few weeks, your tiny human changes at an incredible pace, growing and developing before your very eyes. This fleeting period, often called the "fourth trimester," is one you'll want to remember forever – and that's where newborn photography comes in.

More than just pretty pictures, professional newborn photography is an investment in preserving these precious, ephemeral memories. Here's why every new parent should consider it:

1. Those First Few Weeks are Fleeting (Really!):

It sounds cliché, but it's true. Your newborn will only be that tiny, sleepy, curly little bundle for a very short window, typically within the first 7-14 days after birth. During this time, they are most pliable for those adorable, curled-up poses, and still have that brand-new, fresh-from-the-womb look. Blink, and they've already started to stretch out and become more alert!

2. Professional Expertise for Safety and Comfort:

Newborn photography isn't just about having a fancy camera. A professional newborn photographer is specially trained in newborn safety, understanding how to pose your baby safely and comfortably, maintaining proper temperature, and recognizing their cues. They know how to soothe a fussy baby and keep them content throughout the session, ensuring a stress-free experience for everyone.

3. Artful & Timeless Keepsakes:

While your phone will undoubtedly be overflowing with snapshots, a professional photographer creates art. They have the right lighting, props, backdrops, and editing skills to produce stunning, high-quality images that you'll be proud to display in your home and cherish for generations. These aren't just photos; they're timeless heirlooms.

4. Capturing the Details You Might Forget:

In the beautiful chaos of new parenthood, it's easy for the tiny details to blur. Professional newborn photographers meticulously capture those delicate features: the flaky skin, the tiny toes, the wispy hair, the perfect pout, and those sweet little yawns. These are the details you'll want to remember years down the line when your "baby" is no longer so little.

5. A Chance to Relax and Observe:

A newborn photography session is often surprisingly relaxing for new parents. While the photographer gently poses and soothes your baby, you get a rare opportunity to sit back, enjoy a cup of tea, and simply watch your beautiful new addition being celebrated. It's a moment to breathe and truly soak in the wonder of your growing family.

6. Celebrating Your New Family:

Beyond just individual shots of the baby, many newborn sessions include family portraits. These images, capturing the tender connection between parents and their new arrival, are incredibly powerful. They tell the story of your family's newest chapter and the immense love that has just multiplied.

What Is The Best Age For A Newborn Session?

What Is The Best Age For A Newborn Session?

This is a question that I get most often when asked about newborn sessions. “When should we book our newborn photos?” And “When is the best age for a newborn session?”.

When do I need to book newborn photos?

Some mother’s book as soon as they know and are excited for their due date. Others like to wait till the last couple of weeks of their pregnancy. Whatever you decide, just make sure that you do it in enough advance so that you are sure to get the photographer of your dreams and that they have spots open to do your newborn session. Babies are only this tiny once so make sure you consider everything carefully.

Ideally you want to shoot for anywhere between being 5-21 days new. Because when they are this brand new they tend to be very cuddly, still flexible and not to mention super sleepy! And honestly, the sleepier the better!!

I recommend feeding baby right before photos so that you can send baby off into milk drunk dreamland for the duration of the session! Making an easier and quicker time for all parties involved!

Sometimes we will still get some non-sleepers but those still make for some pretty adorable photos!

And on that note, just a reminder that if you’re looking for a newborn photographer in the Guildford area, contact me! I’d love to talk to you about booking a session for you.

Why are newborn shoots worth it?

Guildford Newborn Photographer

Your newborn will never be this small again. They will be this tiny once in their life. Babies grow up so fast! Photographing your baby soon after birth will give you portraits to treasure for the rest of your life and their lives. You can look back and remember on the size of their little fingers, toes, baby rolls, and facial expressions.

When my current clients return to order their newborn photos, their baby has grown so much within the first few weeks. It’s truly amazing to see how much they can grow in such a short amount of time.
